I recently found a bit of sugar art history at our local cake and cookie supply store.
This book, written in the 1970’s by Josefa Barloco a trailblazer in the art of gum paste flowers, is truly a gem.
To a group of aspiring sugar artists, bakers and decorators this book acted as a yearbook of sorts. Within it’s vintage floral cover are the signatures of an enterprising group of students, words written to spur each other on to create, thrive and explore.
I detect this same spirit of camaraderie every time we hold a cookie class.
Through everyones encouraging words and humor the sweet joy that takes place in that space lingers long after everyone has left. In this very real way each one of our students is leaving their signature on the pages of the continuing story being written in our little bake shop.
